You can tell who's in the Vodou by what they don't do.
We avoid certain colors, foods, times or types of speech and even certain intimate restrictions.
While the agbetsivi may behave with abandon (within reason of course), the vodousi aspires to a greater purpose than self indulgence.
Eko is what is forbidden because it causes harm, cultivates the worst in you, repels what is best for you, or invites the conditions that lead to your undoing.
Eko cultivates discipline and inspires humility.
Eko means 'poverty' because it will steal your glory, honor, and value, standing in sharp contrast to Esɛ.
