A Short Introduction to the Sacraments of Vodou

Vɔxa of two klu commemorates the end of Dzodze and the beginning of Tedoxe.

TÔDELA presides over all sacrifices to the vodous in my ƒome so all such things must be done mindful of His duality.

Sins and debts can be forgiven, while oaths can be made, fulfilled or ratified.

Some people ask "Why do the vodous need sacrifice if they are so great?", and the answer is the vodous don't need the sacrifices. We do.

Vɔxa, nunana, kɔ aha ɖí, and do gbe ɖa; sacrifice, offerings, libations, and prayer, are sacraments that exist to shrink the distance between the spirits and ourselves.

The vodou and togbɛwo are like lines of force that knot themselves up for a moment before untangling and continuing about their merry way. Humanity is that "moment" and "tangle" with the potential to alter the frequency of those lines of force or even become their own lines of force if we can cultivate the spiritual power and awareness to do so.
