There is a quite prolific author and Hounnan whose work I greatly admire. She wrote recently about the challenges of teaching Vodou on-line, particularly with the advent of Black Witchtok and Afro occultism muddying the water. I know exactly what she's talking about having run into it myself on various social media vehicles. These people wanted validation not Vodou so I left them to their own devices.
So why do I bother? Why don't I do like most authentically trained and lineaged Hounnan? Because out of a 100 misanthropic rebels just turning their noses up to authority there might be one genuine seeker looking for a clue. A starting point. Or more honestly, a place to learn the form while he or she pursues the substance. I started my journey in my early teens some 37 years ago in pursuit of a spiritual discipline that included me and told my story. If I can save someone, anyone, 33 years of spiritual agony that comes with knowing what you're being forced to chose from are varying degrees of dirty water when you're dying of thirst, I will.
My ancestors are from Agoe Sogbossito Motolikope in Togo and I am far from the only child from that village longing to return. So until the last of us have had that opportunity to make that decision, I will be here.
